The Associate Vice President Students (AVPS) portfolio comprises multiple unique and interconnected student service units grouped into eight directorates listed below. Collectively, these units contribute to an environment in which all students can navigate and fully participate in their UBC experience.

Associate Vice-President, Students Office 

The Office of the AVP Students (AVPSO) provides holistic, centralized leadership and support for the portfolio in the areas of Administration, Communications, Strategic Initiatives, and Student Support & Case Management.  

The AVPSO plays a leadership role in ensuring the portfolio fulfills its mission, achieves its vision, and lives its values through supportive and collaborative partnerships, strong institution-wide relationships, assessment, and improvement initiatives, and the development of student supports.

Academic & Career Development

Academic & Career Development (ACD) provides holistic, centralized academic and career support for students focusing on both curricular (academic) and co-curricular offerings (experiential education).   

ACD collaborates closely with our faculty partners to deliver the academic mission and develop on-campus co-curricular learning opportunities.  ACD creates meaningful and reciprocal relationships within the local and global community while connecting them to the UBC Okanagan community to foster co-curricular and post-graduate career pathways.

ACADEMIC & CAREER ADVISING 

Helping students navigate their degrees, achieve academic goals, and plan their careers. 

CAREER DEVELOPMENT 

Providing guidance for career advice, resume support, interview skills, as well as events, opportunities, and workshops. 


Athletics & Recreation

Championing sport, physical activity and wellbeing​ to contribute to the holistic development ​of UBCO students, student-athletes, faculty and staff, ​that create a sense of belonging and community for the campus ​and its connection to the Okanagan.​

Athletics 

To create an experience, as well as significant moments and memories, around varsity sport to contribute to the holistic development of the student-athlete while at the same time being the largest contributor to the sense of belonging and community for the entire campus and its connection to the Okanagan.

Because we care about our students and their wellbeing, we inspire active lifestyles by providing programs, services, and facilities where they can be a part of a social, physically active community—contributing to a fulfilling university experience where everyone can feel like they belong. 


Global Engagement Office

The Global Engagement Office (GEO) works to foster a global campus community where inclusiveness, equity, open-mindedness, curiosity, and humility are nurtured at home and abroad. GEO includes three units, International Student Advising, Go Global, and Intercultural Programming that work together to provide support to students as part of comprehensive internationalization on the UBC Okanagan campus. ​ 

GEO oversees international student advising, support & settlement, student mobility & international research (VIRS), safety abroad, intercultural learning and faculty-led programing for all UBC students. They coordinate student exchange and research and on-campus programming such as intercultural learning, international career programming, professional development, language exchange, IRCC advising (including PR advising) and post-graduation transition programs for all UBC students. GEO also collaborates with partner institutions and develops orientation and settlement sessions as well as inbound and outbound summer programs.

GO GLOBAL 

Offering programs for UBC students learning abroad and international students looking to come to UBC from abroad.

Helping students build cross-cultural skills and intercultural fluency. 


Indigenous Programs & Services

Indigenous Programs & Services widens participation and access to post-secondary education for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students, along with providing community and culturally appropriate programs and services to serve Indigenous students at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan.

Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Office

The Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Office (SVPRO) provides confidential, trauma informed, identity affirming, and culturally safer support to UBC students, staff and faculty of all genders who are affected by sexualized violence, harassment, domestic violence or harm regardless of where or when it took place.  

We actively create opportunities for people to explore safety, healing, accountability, justice, community and leadership. SVPRO delivers innovative programming, supportive workplace trainings, and comprehensive prevention education in order to disrupt the root causes of violence; address incidents as they occur; challenge rape culture on campus; and build empathy and understanding of trauma to support survivors.
