Welcome
The Office of the Associate Vice-President, Students is home to an array of services and programs that are core to the student experience and student success — providing leadership for UBC’s Okanagan campus in areas of academic and career development, athletics and recreation, global engagement, Indigenous programs and services, sexual violence prevention and response, student engagement and learning, and wellbeing and accessibility services.
Our work supports an exceptional student experience at UBC, one of the world’s leading research universities, by fostering student learning, development, and engagement through services and programs that aim to enhance student success, facilitate program connections between students and their academic units, and build institutional affinity for students at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
Our Mission
As partners in delivering the academic mission, the AVPS portfolio supports the whole student to navigate and fully participate in their UBC experience, both inside and outside of the classroom. We support a sense of belonging on campus by fostering an accessible and equitable student experience and providing opportunities for students to learn and engage.
Our Vision
A community-connected portfolio building a campus culture of wellbeing, truth and reconciliation, and equitable access so all students have the opportunity to experience everything that UBC has to offer.
Our Values
ACCOUNTABILITY
A responsibility for the impact of our actions and practices beyond our intentions. The success of our programs and services is measured by these impacts on current and future students.
CONNECTION
A commitment to fostering reciprocal and respectful relationships with the land and individuals surrounding us. By forming connections with students, partners, the planet and each other, we are building the foundation for meaningful collaboration and a strong campus community.
DIVERSITY
The recognition that differences in perspectives and lived experiences result in a richer understanding of the world and provide opportunities to listen, learn and challenge assumptions and unconscious biases.
EQUITY
A commitment to understanding student experiences and taking deliberate actions to remove barriers and create opportunities for historically, persistently and systemically marginalized populations to fully participate in their UBC education.
INNOVATION
The recognition that creativity and problem-solving are required to adapt our programs, practices and services to best support students in our ever-changing world.
TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
A responsibility to understand the historical and ongoing truth of colonial experiences and systems, and a commitment to reconciliation once learning the truth has started.
WELLBEING
A commitment to creating a campus culture of compassion, wellbeing, equity and social justice. By providing opportunities to improve the health and sustainability of our current and future societies, we aim to contribute to the wellbeing of people, places and the planet.
